Summon Night 1 Swordcraft Story is a fast-paced action RPG for the Game Boy Advance that blends weapon crafting, real-time combat, and light visual novel elements. Unlike the main series, which features tactical grid-based battles, this GBA spinoff focuses on individual skill and crafting mastery.
Story and Setting
The game takes place in the steampunk-inspired city of Wystern, within the magical land of Lyndbaum.
- The Goal: You play as the child of the legendary Craftlord Shintetsu, who died mysteriously three years prior. You enter a grand tournament to prove your worth and succeed your father as a Craftlord.
- The Protagonist: Players can choose to play as either Cleru (male) or Pratty (female).
- Guardian Beasts: At the start, you are paired with one of four Guardian Beasts—Sugar (Fairy), Rasho (Demon), Kutty (Beast), or Zantek (Mechanical)—who serve as your partner throughout the story.
Key Gameplay Features
- Real-Time Combat: Battles shift from a top-down exploration view to a side-scrolling field. The combat is fluid and similar to the Tales of series, emphasizing timing and quick weapon swapping.
- Deep Weapon Crafting: You don't just find weapons; you forge them. There are hundreds of weapons to create across five types: Swords, Axes, Spears, Hammers, and Drills. You must gather materials in the Labyrinth dungeon to forge and upgrade your gear.
- Social & Dating Sim Elements: Each day ends with a "Night Flight" where you choose a character to spend time with. These interactions build relationships that lead to multiple endings, ranging from friendship to romance.
- Short & Replayable: The main story is relatively concise (roughly 13-15 hours), designed to be replayed so you can experience different Guardian Beast interactions and character endings.
